US approves $1.45 billion arms deal with UAE, including Chinook helicopters

The United States has approved a significant arms deal for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), authorizing the sale of military equipment valued at approximately $1.45 billion (~₹12,370.72 crore). This decision comes as President Donald Trump embarks on a diplomatic tour of the Middle East, including a visit to the UAE.

The proposed sale encompasses six CH-47F Chinook helicopters and associated equipment, amounting to $1.32 billion. These helicopters are intended to enhance the UAE's capabilities in search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support, and counterterrorism operations. Additionally, the deal includes sustainment and support for the UAE's fleet of F-16 fighter jets, further bolstering the nation's defense readiness.

The US  State Department emphasised that this sale aligns with American foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the defense capabilities of a key regional partner. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of the proposed sale, initiating a 30-day review period during which lawmakers can raise objections or request modifications.

This arms deal reflects the ongoing strategic partnership between the United States and the UAE, aiming to promote stability and security in the Middle East. It also underscores the US commitment to supporting allied nations in enhancing their defense infrastructures.
