The war between Russia and Ukraine, about to complete three years since the tensions escalated, is now believed to be taking the shape of a third world war, as per Ukraine’s former military commander, Valery Zaluzhny, on Wednesday.
“In 2024, we can believe that the 3rd World War has begun,” Zaluzhny remarked at a media event in Kyiv.
Zaluzhny believes that the war is expanding globally, a factor he attributes to the involvement of Russia’s allies in the war.
Stressing the interference of North Korean, Chinese, and Iranian troops in the war, Zaluzhny stated, “North Korean soldiers are now on the Ukrainian front. Iranian ‘Shahed-136s’ are killing civilians openly, and shamelessly. Let’s be honest here alright.”
He further called for Ukraine’s allies in the West and elsewhere to extend their support to the war-torn country, and claimed that with their support in the war, “it is still possible to stop it here”.
Earlier this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shook up the country’s top military leadership, as he sacked the ‘Iron General’ Zaluzhny.
Zaluzhny now serves as the country’s envoy to the UK.

Notably, both South Korea and the US claim that North Korean soldiers, who have been deployed to Russia’s western front-line Kursk region, have begun engaging in combat against Ukrainian forces.
In the detailed terms of the agreement, Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) are committed to developing a sustained partnership based on mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, equality, and other principles of international law that support friendly relations and cooperation among nations.
The treaty also includes provisions for immediate military and other forms of assistance if either nation faces an armed attack, as stipulated by Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
The treaty will come into effect upon the exchange of ratification instruments.
