Two Pennsylvania State Police Troopers were seriously injured after being shot while responding to a call in Susquehanna County late Thursday morning.

At approximately 11.17 am, Troopers arrived at the scene near State Route 171 in Thompson Township, where a male suspect opened fire on the officers. Trooper Joseph Perechinsky and Trooper William Jenkins sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to a medical facility for emergency treatment.

Following the attack, multiple Pennsylvania State Police units and local law enforcement agencies launched a coordinated response, securing the area and establishing a perimeter. The armed suspect, who refused to comply with commands and posed an immediate threat, was shot and killed during the confrontation. Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Both Troopers are currently hospitalised in stable condition. An EMS worker, Jay Larson, was also injured while assisting at the scene and is receiving medical care.

The Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, visited the injured Troopers and their families, who then later shared a statement on social media platform X, “I just left Trooper Joe Perechinsky and Trooper Billy Jenkins who are in stable condition. They represent the absolute best of the Pennsylvania State Police. This morning, they went towards danger to keep our neighbors safe and they saved lives by doing so. We owe them an immense debt of gratitude”.

He also praised the medical team at Geisinger Hospital and recognised EMS worker Jay Larson for his bravery and service under fire.

The investigation into the incident remains active, with further details to be released.
