Trump warns Iran against pursuing nuclear weapons amid ongoing diplomatic talks
US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, emphasising that Tehran must abandon any intention of developing nuclear weapons or risk facing severe consequences, including potential military action.
During a meeting at the White House with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, Trump conveyed concerns that Iran has been deliberately delaying progress in nuclear negotiations.
He asserted that the US would not allow Iran to come close to possessing a nuclear weapon and confirmed that all options, including military intervention, remain on the table should Iran continue its current course, as per reports.
Trump’s comments come shortly after American and Iranian officials held diplomatic discussions in Muscat, Oman. The talks, which were described by both sides as constructive and positive, were led by Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. A follow-up round of negotiations is reportedly scheduled for the coming Saturday.
Despite the optimistic tone from negotiators, President Trump reportedly appeared doubtful about Iran’s intentions. He suggested that Iran may be attempting to prolong negotiations without committing to a resolution, and implied that while Iranian officials are interested in reaching a deal, they may lack a clear strategy for doing so.
Trump also indicated that Iran is approaching a critical point in its nuclear development, urging the nation to act swiftly if it seeks to avoid serious repercussions.
