Trump set to sign executive order to remove the Department of Education

President Donald Trump is reportedly moving ahead with plans to eliminate the Department of Education, fulfilling a promise he made during his campaign.
Sources indicate that he is expected to sign an executive order aimed at disbanding the department, which he has previously criticised as being filled with ‘radicals, zealots, and Marxists’.
A fact sheet released by the White House states that the move will shift control of education to families rather than bureaucratic institutions. Trump and his supporters have argued that the Department of Education has failed American students, and they claim that its policies, particularly the rise of anti-American Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, have harmed the most vulnerable students.
Linda McMahon (Secretary of Education) reportedly issued a memo expressing her support for Trump’s plan, vowing to oversee a new era of accountability in the agency’s final stages. She stated, The reality of our education system is stark, and the American people have elected President Trump to make significant changes in Washington.
McMahon also emphasised that the Department of Education’s elimination was a momentous final mission, which she will execute quickly and responsibly.
In response to the reports of Trump’s upcoming executive order, the American Federation of Teachers issued a statement urging Congress to oppose the decision, as per reports.
