Trump Says US Could Strike Iran On Sunday, Floats Possibility Of ‘Big, Beautiful Agreement’

US President Donald Trump has said Washington could launch fresh strikes against Iran as early as Sunday, October 25, while keeping open the possibility of a negotiated settlement amid continued tensions with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters in Florida on Saturday after casting his ballot in the US midterm elections, Trump declined to confirm whether he had made a final decision on further military action.

“Do you really think I'd tell you that? Maybe tomorrow... There's a possibility I will. There's also a possibility we'll have a nice, big, beautiful agreement,” Trump said, as per reports.

With India ahead of the United States by several hours, Trump's reference to “tomorrow” meant Sunday in India.

Trump Renews Threat Of ‘Another Little Epic Fury’

Trump's latest remarks came a day after he warned that the United States could launch another military operation against Iran.

“We may do another little Epic Fury,” he said at a rally in Florida on Friday, referring to the name given to the US military campaign against Iran.

The warning came amid reports that Tehran was preparing to target undersea communications cables in the Gulf if Washington and Tel Aviv resumed their military campaign.

The conflict began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, targeting military infrastructure and the offices and residences of its leaders. The strikes killed Iran's then Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump praised the US military's role in the conflict, claiming American forces had inflicted heavy losses on Iran.

“We have done an amazing job. Our navy and military have done an amazing job. They have knocked out every jet fighter of Iran. 259 ships are at the bottom of the sea. They (Iran) are only left with record inflation,” he said.

Trump Questions Whether Iran Would Honour A Peace Deal

Despite the threat of further military action, Trump left open the prospect of an agreement with Tehran. However, he questioned whether Iran could be trusted to honour any deal reached with Washington.

“They want to make a deal, but the problem is, will they hold the deal?” he said.

Trump has repeatedly maintained that his administration wants to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, while keeping military action on the table alongside the possibility of negotiations.

Iran Denies Fresh Proposal To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz

Separately, Iran denied making a new proposal to Pakistani mediators to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the United States lifting its naval blockade.

The denial followed a report by a Saudi Arabian media outlet claiming Tehran had submitted a fresh proposal to resolve the dispute over the strategic waterway.

As per news reports, citing the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency, sources familiar with the matter rejected the report. Press TV quoted the response as describing the claims as “a lie and fabrication”.

The denial comes as tensions over the waterway and the possibility of renewed US military action continue to cloud prospects for a settlement.
