“If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened, a normal maritime passage restored within seven days. The choice now rests with the United States,” Araghchi told reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Iran Says Conditions Are Not New
Araghchi said the measures being sought from the US were not new and referred to a memorandum of understanding agreed between Iran and the US in June.
“The actions that the United States should take are not new. They are all already in the MOU,” he said.
Iran’s proposal comes as the blockade of its ports continues to put pressure on the country’s economy, while the Strait of Hormuz remains a central point in the dispute.
