Donald Trump on Friday said the United States was “very close” to achieving its objectives in the ongoing conflict with Iran, signalling a possible winding down of military operations while urging other nations to assume responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz, as per reports.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump outlined what he described as significant military gains, stating that Washington was considering reducing its direct involvement after recent operations. He claimed that Iran’s missile capabilities had been severely degraded and its defence infrastructure weakened.

The US President also said efforts had been made to safeguard regional allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Trump reportedly said countries that rely on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route, should take primary responsibility for its security. He added that while the US could assist if required, it should not be necessary once the perceived threat from Iran is addressed.

The remarks indicate a potential recalibration of US military involvement in the region, even as tensions remain high and disruptions to shipping through the strategic waterway continue.

The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of the world’s oil and gas supplies, making its security critical to global energy markets. Trump’s comments suggest a broader effort by Washington to reduce its frontline role while encouraging allied and dependent nations to take on greater responsibility for maritime security.

While no formal announcement of troop withdrawal has been made, the statement points to a strategy of maintaining pressure on Iran while gradually scaling back direct military engagement.
