A man has been arrested on probable cause following a triple homicide at a hair salon in central Uppsala on Tuesday evening, Swedish authorities confirmed. The victims, found with gunshot wounds, were discovered at the scene near Vaksala Square after reports of gunfire from local residents.

Police responded swiftly, cordoning off a large area and launching a special incident protocol to manage the ongoing investigation. Three people have been confirmed dead, but their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

“We have brought in several people of interest,” said Erik Åkerlund, police district chief for Uppsala and head of the special operations task force. “It is too early to confirm or deny any links to criminal networks, but that angle is being investigated.”

Authorities have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and interviewing witnesses as part of the investigative effort. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but police stress that early indications suggest this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The shooting comes just days before Walpurgis Night, a major annual celebration in Uppsala. In response to public concern, police have reassured residents that safety measures are being strengthened across the city.

“Our focus now is twofold: solving the crime and ensuring a safe environment for the Walpurgis festivities,” said Åsa Larsson, local police chief for Uppsala/Knivsta. “We’re deploying increased patrols and outreach teams to maintain public confidence and prevent further incidents.”

Police resources from across the region and country are being mobilized for the upcoming celebrations. Authorities emphasised the importance of continuing normal life, despite heightened security.
