Taylor Swift Songs Removed from Trump Campaign, White House Videos After Copyright Claims

Several Taylor Swift songs have been reportedly removed from TikTok videos posted by Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House, reigniting the long-running political feud between the global pop star and the US president. 

The takedowns came after copyright-related notices appeared on a number of campaign and White House posts that had featured Swift’s music.

The removals have drawn widespread attention because of Swift’s history of publicly opposing Trump and his repeated references to the singer during recent election campaigns.

Swift tracks disappear from Trump-related posts

Among the removed songs was “August”, Swift’s 2020 hit that appeared in a Team Trump video showing Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump watching fireworks. 

The campaign account had tagged Swift and suggested she would be “super excited” that her music had been used.

The audio has since disappeared from the post.

Other Swift songs, including “Father Figure” and “Opalite”, were also removed from Trump campaign and White House TikTok videos. 

Several affected posts now display messages indicating that the music is unavailable because of a copyright claim or has been made unavailable by the copyright owner.

Neither Taylor Swift nor the White House has publicly commented on the removals,as per reports.

Political feud resurfaces

The dispute has renewed attention on the strained relationship between Swift and Trump. During the 2024 US presidential campaign, Trump shared AI-generated images that falsely suggested Swift and some of her fans supported him.

Swift later said the fake images were one of the reasons she decided to publicly announce her voting intentions.

The singer endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, describing her as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and saying the United States could achieve more through “calm and not chaos”.

Trump responded sharply, posting on social media: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Swift’s political activism

For much of her early career, Swift avoided public political endorsements. That changed in 2018, when she backed Democratic candidates in Tennessee and criticised Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn.

During Trump’s first presidency, Swift became increasingly vocal, particularly after the killing of George Floyd in 2020, when she accused Trump of inflaming racial divisions.

She later endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 election and remained active in political discussions during the 2024 campaign.

Copyright and campaign music disputes

The latest episode is part of a broader pattern of disputes between political campaigns and musicians over the use of copyrighted music. Several artists, including Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, have objected to their songs being used in connection with Trump or his administration.

While it remains unclear whether Swift personally authorised action against the TikTok videos, the removal of her music has once again placed the Trump-Swift rivalry at the centre of public attention.
