Israeli and Syrian government officials reportedly met in Paris on Tuesday and were ready to talk on the de-escalation of military from both sides that was mediated by US officials.

A joint statement issued by the US State Department after the talks in the French capital said that Syria and Israel were committed to "achieving lasting security and stability arrangements for both countries".

On Tuesday, the officials from both the countries met in Paris and were ready to start diplomatic talks further . The statement of the US State Department said ,"Both sides have decided to establish a joint fusion  mechanism – a dedicated communication cell – to facilitate immediate and ongoing coordination on their intelligence sharing, military de-escalation, diplomatic engagement and commercial opportunities under the supervision of the United States,".

The Syrian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and the country’s intelligence chief, Hussein al-Salama. They were focused on reviving a United Nations-patrolled buffer zone between the countries’ forces, and they are also trying to push Israel to withdraw troops from territory that it seized after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad ‘s government in December 2024.

From Israel, a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s office on Tuesday said, “The dialogue was held as part of President Trump’s vision for advancing peace in the Middle East.”

”It was agreed that the dialogue will continue in order to advance common goals,” it said.

Israel and Syria have been officially at war since 1948.

Most recently, Israel carried out airstrikes in July 2025, near the presidential palace in Damascus.
