A skydiving plane with 15 people on board crashed at Cross Keys Airport in Williamstown, New Jersey, on Wednesday evening, leaving 14 people injured, according to the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 5.30 pm to North Tuckahoe Road, where they found the downed aircraft and declared a mass casualty incident upon arrival.
Three individuals with critical injuries were airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, while eight others were also taken there by ground transport, as per reports.
An additional three people were taken by ambulance to Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill. One person declined medical treatment at the scene. The pilot was among those injured in the incident.
Several individuals were reportedly exposed to jet fuel during the crash, officials said. The pilot reportedly experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff and attempted to return to the airport, but the plane crashed in a wooded area nearby.
Emergency responders noted that a recent mass casualty training drill at Cross Keys Airport helped coordinate an effective response.
According to FlightAware, the Cessna 208B aircraft departed Cross Keys Airport at 5.19 pm and was airborne for only about four minutes before crashing.
The aircraft remains at the crash site, and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) investigators are expected to continue their work at the location overnight.
