At least 27 people have been killed in a fresh Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine, just days before a temporary ceasefire proposed by Moscow, as per reports.

In Zaporizhzhia, at least 12 people were killed when Russian glide bombs hit a car workshop and nearby residential buildings. Around 20 others were injured, according to regional officials. In Kramatorsk, six people lost their lives and 12 were injured, while four more deaths were reported from Dnipro.

Russian strikes also targeted gas facilities in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions, where five people, including workers and rescue staff, were killed. The attack also disrupted gas supply to nearly 3,500 consumers, officials said.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly criticised Russia, saying the attack in Zaporizhzhia targeted civilians and showed no value for human life. He called the strike “cynical” and said such attacks happen almost every day. He also said the war should stop completely, not just for a short time, as Russia has proposed a two-day ceasefire on May 8–9, while Ukraine has reportedly asked for a longer truce and is waiting for Russia’s response.

Ukraine’s air force said multiple drones and missiles were launched overnight. While most were intercepted, a few managed to hit key locations, highlighting the need for stronger air defence systems.

Meanwhile, Ukraine also carried out strikes inside Russia. As per reports, drone attacks killed seven people and injured several others. A major oil refinery was also targeted, leading to a fire, though no casualties were reported.

The situation remains tense, with both sides continuing attacks despite talks of a ceasefire.
