United Kingdom prime minister Rishi Sunak reportedly said that UK visa fees and health surcharges will be increased for visa applicants from all over the world, including Indians. This will make traveling to Britain costlier than before.
An increase in visa fees and health surcharges is to be levied to meet the increased salary costs of Britain’s public sector employees.
Sunak amends visa fees, health surcharges to cater to public sector workers' salaries
Public sector employees had demanded a raise in their wages from the prime minister. Sunak has approved a salary hike of five to seven per cent for various public servants like teachers, policemen, junior doctors, and other public sector workers.
He reportedly stated that if the UK increases the salary of public sector employees, the money for it has to be collected from somewhere else. Sunak added that he doesn’t want to increase the tax burden on people and borrow money because it will increase inflation.
Therefore, the UK has come up with the solution to increase the visa fee and immigration health surcharge levied on migrants arriving in the UK when they apply for a visa.
