US President Donald Trump reportedly said that he may run for president of Venezuela when his current term ends. He made the comment during a press conference on April 6 while talking about a rescue operation in Iran.

Trump said people in Venezuela support him and that he could get more votes than any candidate. He added that after finishing his term in the United States, he might move to Venezuela and contest the presidential election.

He also said he is ready to learn Spanish quickly, earlier Trump had refused to learn language, but now he claimed he is good at learning languages and it will not take much time.

Trump hinted that he can run against acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez. However, he later clarified that he was happy with current leadership but left options open for the future.

Political analysts have reacted differently to his remarks, some believe he was joking while others say comment may related to US interest in Venezuela’s “oil and growing influence” in the country.

Notably, on Jan 3, 2026, US captured then-Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in a raid in Caracas, charging him with narco-terrorism and trafficking cases in New York.
