Prominent Hezbollah commander shot dead outside his home in Lebanon

A senior Hezbollah official in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen on Tuesday, reported Lebanese media.
The Hezbollah commander Sheikh Muhammad Hamadi, who was on the FBI’s most-wanted list, was shot six times in a drive-by shooting outside of his home in Machghara, as per reports.
Hamadi was shifted to hospital after being shot but succumbed to his injuries.
According to an investigation by Lebanese authorities, the motive was not immediately clear. According to an Arabic newspaper in Lebanon, the assassination stemmed from a years-long interfamilial feud and was not politically motivated.
So far, no one has officially taken responsibility for the deadly attack that occurred in the initial 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
In 1985, Hamadi hijacked a West German airliner, Lufthansa Flight 847, which was carrying 153 passengers, including several Americans, as per reports. During the hijacking, an American national was reportedly tortured and killed. Hammadi’s involvement in this and other acts of violence against Western targets earned him a prominent spot on the US law enforcement agency’s list of wanted criminals.
