Prince Williams, the 42-year-old Prince of Wales, has hired the same lawyer firm that represented his mother, late princess Diana, during her divorce proceedings.

In the process, Williams has ditched the law-firm that represents his father, King Charles, with whom Princess Diana was married.

The prince ditching the royal lawyers – Harbottle & Lewis –  came as a surprise to many. The UK media reported it as Prince William choosing to use Diana’s attorneys ‘rather than King Charles’.

Last year, the internet was abuzz with rumours about a potential divorce between Prince William and Kate Middleton. Notably, there have been recent reports of Prince Williams being “incredibly supportive through Kate’s cancer battle”, and that he is making the most of the ‘second chance’ at life for the couple.

According to local media, his move is just another step into him carving his own identity for himself, and doing things in an independent way, rather than following his father’s footsteps.

According to ET, Lord Mischon, the owner of Mishcon de Reya – the firm recently hired by Prince Williams– was a close associate to Princess Diana.

Mischon de Reya’s current deputy chairman was Princess Diana’s attorney during her divorce from King Charles in 1996.

Princess Diana died a year later in a car crash in Paris, when she was reportedly chased by the paparazzis.

The official investigation (Operation Paget, by the UK police) concluded in 2006 that the crash was a result of negligence by the driver and the pursuit by paparazzi. Despite many conspiracy theories over the years, no evidence of foul play was found.
