Pakistan hits jackpot discovers 28 lakh tolas of gold reserve valued at 80000 cr PKR

Pakistan which is facing an economic crisis, has discovered 28 lakh tolas of gold reserve, valued at 80,000 crore PKR.

The crisis-hit Pakistan has discovered 32.6 metric tonnes of gold reserves worth 800 billion PKR in the Indus River in Punjab's Attock district.

Former mining minister of Punjab Ibrahim Hasan Murad has unveiled a groundbreaking discovery involving 2.8 million tolas of gold, valued at 800 billion PKR (₹24.66 crore), spread across a 32-kilometre stretch in Attock.

The Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) confirmed the massive gold deposit after conducting thorough sampling from 127 sites.

The reserve is estimated to boost Pakistan’s economy amid the crisis.

From the Himalayan ranges, at the origin of the Indus River, gold is found where tectonic activity millions of years ago deposited minerals into the river.

As the river that flows through India and Pakistan, carries gold particles, forming placer deposits along its banks. These deposits are especially accessible during winter months when water levels are low, as per reports.

According to the Indus Water Treaty of 1960,  the ‘domestic use’ of the Indus River includes the use of water for drinking, washing, bathing, recreation, sanitation, stock and poultry, and other like purposes;

household and municipal purposes and industrial purposes (including mining, milling and other like purposes).

The treaty gives India 20% of the water from the Indus river system and the rest 80% to Pakistan.
