At least nine people lost their lives and three others remain missing after a flash flood swept through a camping site in Inner Mongolia’s Bayannur City, according to reports.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday morning in the upstream section of a river in Urad Rear Banner, where a group of 13 campers were caught in the sudden surge of water.

By Sunday evening, authorities reportedly confirmed that nine bodies had been recovered, one individual had been rescued, and search operations were still underway for the three missing campers. More than 700 emergency personnel have been reportedly deployed to the site to aid in rescue efforts, local officials reported.

China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has urged travellers to stay away from undeveloped wilderness locations and to remain cautious in areas prone to geological and flood-related hazards.
