A significant amount of gas and oil reserves were found in Pakistan's territorial waters, according to media reports. The report also suggested that the deposits were so substantial that it could prove to be a game-changer for the country.

A geographical survey has helped Pakistan to identify the reserves, which reportedly took three years, with the help of a friendly country, stated the reports.

The access to these reserves is however still far-fetched for Pakistan, as reports suggested that digging and getting the oil and gas out can take several years in the ocean.

A former senior official of the Oil and Gas Reserve Authority of Pakistan said that while Pakistan should be optimistic, the certainty of the discovery could never be 100%. He also said that the size and recovery rate of the resources will decide if they can meet the country's energy demands.

The official reportedly stated that such an exploration alone could cost $5 million, considering the location is offshore. After that, more investment would be required to dig the wells and build an infrastructure to get the resources out, reported the media.
