Massive fire in North Macedonia Nightclub: 50 dead, PM Mickoski expresses grief

A massive fire broke out in a nightclub in Kocani, North Macedonia, resulting in the death of at least 50 people, local media reported on Sunday. The country’s Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and urged people to stand together in this moment of grief.
According to the Chinese news agency, citing local media reports, the fire erupted during a concert in the nightclub, where nearly 1,500 people were present at the time. The flames rapidly spread to the ceiling and other parts of the building, completely engulfing the nightclub in fire.
As soon as the fire broke out, chaos ensued, and a stampede occurred, leading to further casualties. Several people have also sustained injuries in the incident.
Local authorities have stated that they are still assessing the number of casualties and injuries. Rescue teams are on-site, and relief efforts are ongoing.
Expressing deep sorrow, North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
“With profound sadness, I have received the news of the horrific tragedy in Kocani. This is a difficult and deeply sorrowful day for Macedonia! The irreparable loss of so many young lives is heartbreaking.”
He further stated: “In this time of grief, our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength for the families of the deceased to bear this unimaginable loss. The government and the people will do everything possible to ease their pain and support them in these difficult moments.”
The PM emphasized the need for providing all possible assistance, saying: “I urge all relevant institutions—health services, police, local authorities—to take immediate measures to assist the injured and support affected families. The government is fully engaged and will make every effort to deal with the aftermath and investigate the cause of this tragedy.”
Calling for unity and support, PM Mickoski appealed to the public: “In this deeply painful time, as our hearts break with the grief of this terrible tragedy, I call for solidarity, humanity, and responsibility. May God be with the families of the victims, the injured, and the people of Macedonia!”
