A deadly shooting unfolded in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening, leaving three people dead—including the suspected gunman—and three responding police officers injured. The bloodbath inside an apartment building triggered a swift law enforcement response after emergency calls alerted authorities to active gunfire.

Emergency services received a frantic 911 call reporting gunshots inside the residential complex around 4:30 pm on 2 September. Minneapolis Police officers arrived at the scene within three minutes, immediately confronting a chaotic environment as further shots echoed from the upper floors.

Smoke-Filled Hallways And Heavy Casualties

Officers advancing up the stairwell were met with heavy smoke that severely restricted visibility. Upon navigating the upper levels, emergency responders discovered two victims suffering from critical gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene, while the second succumbed to injuries shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

The suspect was also found dead inside the building, though authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of his death.

During the confrontation and tactical sweep, three police officers sustained gunshot wounds. The injured officers were promptly evacuated to Hennepin County Medical Centre. Hospital officials confirmed that all three officers remain in stable condition and are expected to survive, though one officer required emergency surgery and another suffered a bullet wound to the leg.

Julius Bailey, an eyewitness sitting outside the residential complex at the time of the incident, reported hearing roughly eight rapid gunshots followed by a woman screaming.

According to Bailey, the suspect was a local resident known to brandish firearms in public, prompting neighbours to keep their distance since June. Investigation into the exact motive behind the attack remains underway as local authorities secure the building and gather forensic evidence.
