The Kremlin has reportedly increased the personal security around Russian President Vladimir Putin, by installing surveillance systems around the homes of close staffers amid the assassination threats and fear of coup.

The Kremlin, the official residence of the Russian president, has been turned into a fortress in the wake of the killing of a top general in December which sparked a dispute in the top ranks of Russia’s security establishment. The report suggests that there is an unease within the Kremlin as it faces growing problems at home and abroad, including economic crisis, increasing signs of dissent and setbacks on the battlefield in Ukraine.

After the threat, cooks, bodyguards, photographers who work with the President are banned from using public transport. The screening of the Kremlin chief is carried out twice and those who work close to him can only use phones without internet access, as per the report.

Russian security officials have reportedly reduced the number of locations that Putin regularly visits. He and his family have stopped going to their usual residences in the Moscow region. He shockingly has not visited a military facility this year so far, as per reports.

This development comes at a time when there has been growing tensions around the Kremlin, four years after it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
