A 24-year-old Kansas man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot US President Donald Trump ahead of his campaign rally in Kansas, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas.
Jaden Read was arrested on Saturday in Clearwater, Kansas, and remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing. Authorities began investigating him on 15 October after receiving a tip about threatening comments posted on Facebook.
The comments appeared under a KAKE News article about Trump’s planned visit to Wichita, Kansas, according to a press release issued by the attorney’s office on Monday.
Read allegedly wrote: “Let's shoot Trump honestly, where's our shooter? I'm tired of living this money life.” In a second comment, he reportedly added: “I just got a 308 and 305 round, and I'm killing this pedo.”
Suspect Allegedly Posted More Threats
Investigators also found two additional comments posted by Read under a separate KWCH 12 News article about the president’s visit, Xinhua news agency reported.
“Can we shoot him in Kansas, please I will myself,” Read allegedly wrote. A minute later, he added: “IK where your speech will be. Already mapped out roofs around. Finna get kirked since y'all couldn't help him.”
Investigators reportedly said the phrase “get kirked” appeared to refer to the September 2025 assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, 31, at Utah Valley University.
The attorney’s office said the investigation followed a tip received on 15 October. Read was subsequently arrested and is awaiting a detention hearing in federal custody.
Trump Attends Kansas Rally Despite Threats
Despite the alleged threats, Trump attended a campaign rally in Park City, Kansas, on Monday evening to support Republican Senator Roger Marshall’s re-election bid.
The arrest comes amid a series of security incidents involving the US president.
In April, a gunman carrying a shotgun stormed a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents Association dinner. Trump was not injured in the incident. The gala was subsequently rescheduled and held on 24 July.
