Joe Biden, the Democratic Party’s candidate for the US Presidential elections slated to take place this year in November, has opted out of the race for the White House.

Taking to twitter, the 81-year-old incumbent POTUS said, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

The move follows pressure on him by many sections of the party seeking that he withdraw on health grounds, in the wake of his dismal performance in the first debate with former President Donald Trump.

In a separate post on X, Biden further added that, “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”

Biden is currently isolating after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
