Israel strikes Lebanon ‘100 times in 10 minutes' hours after ceasefire

In a massive escalation, Israel launched a deadly assault on Lebanon, killing at least 90 people and injuring over 700, just hours after a ceasefire was announced on Wednesdays.
The strikes, carried out without any prior warning, targeted the Lebanese capital Beirut, triggering panic among residents who had just begun celebrating the ceasefire.
Israel clarified that the ceasefire agreement involving the United States and Iran did not include Lebanon. This position was backed by US President Donald Trump, who stated that there was no agreement with Hezbollah and that the deal was strictly with Iran. He added that sporadic attacks in Lebanon were not unusual.
Reacting strongly, Iran termed Israel’s actions a violation of the ceasefire and announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran warned that any vessel passing through the strait without permission would be targeted.
According to Israeli officials, over 100 Hezbollah positions were struck within just 10 minutes across Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the eastern Bekaa Valley. Israel claimed the operation dealt a significant blow to Hezbollah’s infrastructure.
Explosions rocked several parts of Beirut, with fires breaking out across the city. The brief sense of relief following the ceasefire quickly turned into chaos, as ambulances rushed through heavily affected areas. Journalists reported seeing multiple bodies in severely damaged condition.
So far, Hezbollah has not responded to the attacks, but retaliation in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
Israeli Defence Minister Katz warned that Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem could be the next target. Notably, Israel had killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in 2024, marking a major blow to the group.
