Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz have approved a military plan for the takeover of Gaza City, which has been named Operation Gideon’s Chariots II, according to reports.

The Israeli military has reportedly begun the initial phases of the operation, with forces already positioned on the outskirts of Gaza City. Officials described the move as the first step in a broader offensive aimed at gaining control of the city.

Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, condemned the development, saying the plan disregards ongoing international mediation efforts for a ceasefire and the release of hostages. The group accused Israel of escalating the conflict, which has stretched on for nearly two years, and of putting civilians and displaced residents of Gaza City at further risk.
