Iran may soon agree to a meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss a ceasefire with Israel and the future of its nuclear programme, according to a report in The New York Times, which cited a senior Iranian foreign ministry official.

The report, published Wednesday, suggests that Tehran is considering the diplomatic opening seriously, despite heightened military tensions in the region.

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is reportedly being considered as Iran’s representative for the potential dialogue with the United States.

The move comes at a critical juncture, as Israeli airstrikes continue to target Iranian military and government-linked infrastructure. In response, Iran has launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks, with some reportedly breaching Israeli defenses and resulting in civilian casualties.

Trump, who has kept global observers guessing about his next steps, recently indicated he would not rule out military action against Iran. While speaking to reporters, he suggested that a strike remains a possibility.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a televised speech, warned that any US military intervention would inflict ‘irreparable damage’ and reaffirmed that the Iranian nation would not yield under external pressure.
