Amid ongoing tensions and stalled talks with the United States, Iran has reportedly indicated that it may unveil a “secret weapon” capable of alarming its adversaries.

The warning was issued by Navy Commander Shahram Irani, who suggested that enemies could face a severe shock, using the phrase “heart attack” to describe its potential impact.

While no specific system was officially named, defence experts believe the reference could be to the Hoot supercavitating torpedo, a high-speed underwater weapon first tested around 2006, as per reports.

The torpedo is designed to travel at extremely fast speeds by using supercavitation technology, which creates a gas bubble around it to minimise drag in water.

This mechanism reportedly allows the weapon to move significantly faster than conventional torpedoes, making it difficult to detect and intercept. However, despite its speed advantage, experts reportedly note that such systems come with limitations, including reduced operational range and challenges related to navigation and guidance.

The development comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, with both sides engaged in strained negotiations and increasing strategic signalling.
