Iran executes 19-year-old wrestler over allegedly killing two police men during protest

Iran has executed public hanging to a 19-year-old wrestler Saleh Mohammadi over allegedly killing two police men during protests in the country, as per reports. Along with him, two other men have also received the same punishment.

In January 2026, nationwide anti-regime protests were carried out in Iran in which many protesters were arrested and numerous protesters killed. During this, a 19-year-old Saleh Mohammadi, a wrestler from the city of Qom, was also arrested who has executed by Iran. Reportedly, Mohammadi was publicly hanged on Thursday. Along with him, two other men named Mehdi Ghasemi and Saeed Davodi also publicly hanged. 

All three men were accused of killing two police officers with knives and swords during the nationwide anti regime protest in Iran, as per reports.

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) in a statement on X said, “State media reported the executions of protesters Saleh Mohammadi, Saeed Davodi and Mehdi Ghasemi who were accused of participating in the murders of two policemen during protests in Qom on 8 January 2026.”

They condemn the execution in the strongest terms. “IHRNGO warns about the danger of the mass execution of protesters and political prisoners in the coming weeks,” read the post.

In the further tweet, IHRNGO Director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam has demanded help from the European Union to prevent further executions, saying, “The European Union, in particular, has an important role to play and should use all available diplomatic tools to help prevent further executions and protect the lives of those at risk.”
