Iran closes Strait of Hormuz again, citing US naval blockade

Iran has reversed its earlier decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, announcing that the key shipping route has been closed again amid what it described as a continuing US naval blockade of its ports.
Iran’s military said in a statement that the strait had been shut following the persistence of the blockade.
“Following the continued US naval blockade, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed again,” the X post read.
The development comes a day after Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi had announced that the waterway would remain open for commercial vessels during the ongoing ceasefire in Lebanon.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor, carries a significant portion of global crude oil and petroleum shipments. It had been largely closed during recent hostilities involving Iran, contributing to disruptions in energy supplies.
