Several Indian artefacts dating back to the British colonial era are among more than 600 high-value items stolen during a major burglary at a museum in Bristol, UK. According to the Avon and Somerset Police, the burglary took place on September 25, between 1 and 2 am, at a building on Cumberland Road that houses the Bristol Museum’s British Empire and Commonwealth collection.

Police have released grainy CCTV footage showing four white male suspects at the scene and have appealed to the public for help in identifying them.

Investigating officer DC Dan Burgan described the theft as a “significant loss for the city”, noting that many stolen items carry deep cultural value.

“These items, many of which were donations, provide insight into a multi-layered part of British history,” he said. “We hope the public can help us identify those responsible.”

The investigation has so far included CCTV analysis, forensic examinations, and coordination with victims, the police said.
