India Sends Fourth Relief Consignment to Flood-Hit Nepal, Steps Up Tunnel Rescue Support

India has sent its fourth relief consignment to flood-hit Nepal, carrying 11 tonnes of supplies along with specialised teams and equipment for search, rescue and forensic operations.

Fourth Indian Flight Reaches Kathmandu

The Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft carrying the latest assistance landed in Kathmandu on Sunday, with the relief material handed over to Nepalese authorities.

The consignment includes blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets and hygiene kits. It also carries a specialised tunnel technical contingent equipped for search and rescue operations in hydropower tunnels.

A team of forensic experts and equipment for DNA analysis has also been sent to help Nepal identify victims of the devastating floods.

68.5 Tonnes of Aid Sent So Far

With the latest shipment, India has airlifted a total of 68.5 tonnes of relief material to Kathmandu since the disaster struck.

Earlier consignments included medicines, food packets, portable generators, water purification tablets, tents, hygiene kits, solar lamps, dewatering pumps and kitchen sets.

An 11-member Indian team comprising doctors, paramedics and tunnel engineers had already reached Kathmandu and conducted reconnaissance of hydropower tunnels in the flood-hit Trishuli area of Nuwakot district.

Support for Workers Trapped in Hydropower Tunnels

India's specialised teams are being deployed as rescue efforts continue at hydropower projects where workers are believed to remain trapped.

Nepalese security forces have already rescued workers from several tunnels, but mud and debris blocking tunnel entrances, along with difficult weather conditions, have complicated operations.

The Indian forensic team will also assist Nepalese authorities with DNA analysis and identification of remains as the search for missing people continues.

India Sends Bailey Bridge Equipment

India is also helping Nepal restore transport links damaged by the floods.

Sixteen trucks carrying equipment for a 230-foot single-lane modular steel bridge have reached Nepal. Equipment for seven more Bailey bridges is expected to be supplied, with technical teams due to arrive for their installation.

The portable bridges are expected to help reconnect areas cut off after roads and existing bridges were washed away.

Rescue Efforts Continue After Devastating Floods

The flash floods swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors on August 26, causing widespread destruction across parts of Nepal.

Hundreds of people have died and thousands remain unaccounted for, while rescue teams continue searching damaged settlements, hydropower facilities and other affected areas. Nepal has also warned of rising water levels in the Bhotekoshi River, urging rescue personnel and residents in downstream areas to remain cautious.

India's latest assistance combines immediate relief supplies with specialised technical support as Nepal continues its search, rescue and recovery operations.
