US launches Fresh Strikes
Following the attack, the United States carried out another round of military strikes on Iran, citing the incident involving the merchant vessel.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), around 140 Iranian military targets, including missile and drone sites, naval assets, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks and coastal surveillance locations, were hit in the latest operation.
The US military said more than 300 targets have been struck during three nights of operations this week.
Regional Tensions Escalate
Iran reportedly responded with attacks on countries across the Middle East, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The Strait of Hormuz has remained at the centre of tensions between Iran and the United States as both sides continue negotiations aimed at ending the conflict that began on February 28 this year.

The MEA said the repeated attacks on commercial vessels in the region are a matter of serious concern and urged an immediate reduction in tensions.
India also called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and said attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure must stop. It further stressed that safe and uninterrupted navigation through international waterways should be restored in accordance with international law.
