Hungary’s Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must be taken into custody if he enters Hungary, because of the country’s duties under the International Criminal Court, as per reports.

Magyar reportedly explained that Hungary must follow the rules of the ICC, which has already issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes.

He also said that he will stop Hungary’s plan to leave the ICC, a big change from the earlier policy of current Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who was not in support of the court.

As per reports, this new statement could affect Netanyahu’s planned visit to Hungary later this year, as he may face arrest if he travels there.

The ICC is an international court that investigates serious crimes like war crimes and crimes against humanity. Reportedly countries that are members are expected to follow its decisions.

As per reports, Magyar’s statement shows a shift in Hungary’s foreign policy and its approach to international law. It also signals stronger support for global legal institutions.
