Helicopter crash in Russia’s Dagestan kills five, injures two

A Russian KA-226 helicopter crashed in the Dagestan region, killing five people and injuring two others. Preliminary reports suggest the helicopter lost control before hitting the ground.
Five dead, including top plant official
Among the victims, four were employees of the same Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant (KEMZ). The company confirmed the deaths on November 8, stating that the Deputy General Director and the helicopter’s flight mechanic were among those killed. The crash occurred near Achi-Su village in the Caspian Sea region of Dagestan.
Workers from sanctioned defence firm onboard
Initial Russian state media reports claimed the helicopter was carrying tourists, but it was later clarified that the passengers were employees of a defence manufacturer. KEMZ, which produces aviation equipment, has been sanctioned by the United States for its role in supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The exact cause of the crash is still unknown, and an investigation is underway. The KA-226 is a twin-engine helicopter capable of carrying up to seven passengers.
