Hamas agrees to 60-day truce plan including hostage release: Reports

Palestinian militant group Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire proposal, a source within the group told AFP on Monday. According to Palestinian officials cited by the news agency, the plan includes a 60-day halt in fighting during which at least 10 Israeli hostages would be freed, along with the return of several bodies.
Israel has not yet issued a response to the proposal. Mediators are expected to formally announce the agreement and determine when truce talks will resume, AFP reported.
An Islamic Jihad official also told AFP that the remaining hostages would be released during a second phase of the deal, with further negotiations aimed at achieving a broader settlement. The source added that “all factions are supportive” of the Egyptian- and Qatari-brokered initiative.
Just before these developments, US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that hostages would only be freed if Hamas were “confronted and destroyed,” insisting that their release depended on the group’s elimination.
