An 18-year-old Australian runner, Gout Gout, ran the 200 metres in 19.67 seconds, creating the fastest time in the world this year and a new world under-20 record. Gout ran the race at the Australian Championships in Sydney on Sunday.

As per reports, Gout’s time is faster than what legendary sprinter Usain Bolt ran at the same age. Bolt ran the under-18  in 19.93 seconds in 2004.

This was the first time Gout ran the 200 metres under 20 seconds in a legal race. He had earlier run in 19.84 seconds but that time had wind assistance. Before this, his best time was 20.06 seconds, which he set at the age of 16.

Another Australian runner Aidan Murphy also did very well and finished second with a time of 19.88 seconds.

Gout said he was happy and felt relaxed after achieving this goal. He said that racing with strong athletes in Australia helped him improve.

Gout plans to skip the upcoming Commonwealth Games. As per reports, he wants to focus on the World Under-20 Championships in Oregon in August.

Gout was born in Queensland and his parents are from South Sudan. His journey shows how hard work and dedication can help young athletes achieve big success at an early age.
