Ex-British ambassador Peter Mandelson arrested in UK over Epstein link
Former British ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, has been arrested by British police in connection with an investigation linked to the late Jeffrey Epstein, according to reports.
Local police reportedly said that he is suspected of misconduct in public office.
Mandelson, 72, still holds the British title of “Lord”, and was taken to a police station in London after officers arrested him on February 23,2026. He has since been released on bail, as per reports..
Why was he arrested?
Police opened a criminal investigation after new documents from the U.S. The Justice Department showed that Mandelson might have shared market-sensitive government important information to Jeffrey Epstein many years ago when he was a senior government minister. These documents include emails suggesting Mandelson shared internal details about economic matters.
This information could have been sensitive and not meant to be shared with outsiders, which is why police say they are investigating him for misconduct in the police office.
What is next?
At this time, Mandelson has not been formally charged with a crime. The police are still investigating and will decide later whether to press charges.
