Evangelist KA Paul claims Indian nurse’s death sentence cancelled in Yemen
Nimisha Priya's death sentence to be cancelled

Evangelist and founder of Global Peace Initiative, Dr KA Paul, on Tuesday claimed that Indian nurse Nimisha Priya ‘will be released’ from Yemen where she is on death penalty for the alleged killing of her business partner.

In a video message posted on  X, “I want to thank all the leaders that are involved in making this a great success that Nimisha Priya's death is cancelled. By God's grace, she will be released and taken to India. I want to thank Prime Minister Modi ji for preparing to send your diplomats... and take Nimisha professionally, safely.”

He also mentioned that they could coordinate with the Government of India to arrange logistics for her safe repatriation from Sanaa prison to destinations such as Oman, Jeddah, Egypt, Iran, or Turkiye.

Last week, during its weekly press briefing, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it was in ‘regular contact with local authorities’ in Yemen and extending ‘every possible assistance’ in the case of Nimisha Priya, the Indian nurse facing the death penalty in Sanaa.

Jaiswal said, “This is a very sensitive matter, and the government of India has been offering all possible assistance in the case. We have provided legal assistance and also appointed a lawyer to assist the family. We have also arranged for regular consular visits by her family and are in touch with local authorities, as well as family members, to resolve this issue.”

“This included concerted efforts in the recent few days to seek more time for the family of Ms Nimisha Priya to reach a mutually agreeable solution with the other party. The local authorities in Yemen have postponed carrying out her sentence that was scheduled for July 16,” Jaiswal added.

Nimisha’s death sentence postponed

In a miraculous turn of events, the nurse’s execution, which was scheduled for July 16, was postponed just hours before it was set to take place.

Nimisha was awarded a death sentence in 2020 and upheld by Yemen’s Supreme Judicial Council in November 2023.

She was facing a death sentence for the alleged murder of her former business partner, Talal Abdo Mehdi, in 2017.

Mehdi, her business partner, allegedly harassed her and confiscated her passport. She allegedly administered sedatives to him, which proved fatal.
