Elon Musk has started looking for locations in India for Tesla’s manufacturing plants and has reportedly identified Mumbai and Delhi as potential sites.

Following this announcement, former US President Donald Trump, in an interview with US media, reportedly commented, If Elon Musk is building a factory in India, that's okay, but it's unfair to the US. It's very unfair.

Trump's remarks come after Tesla began hiring for various positions in India.

Tesla has posted hiring alerts for at least 13 roles on its LinkedIn page, primarily in Mumbai and Delhi. The available positions include business operations analyst, service technician, and various advisory roles such as customer engagement manager and order operations specialist.

The hiring push follows Musk’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, DC, last week, where they discussed space, mobility, technology, and innovation.

India recently reduced the basic customs duty on high-end cars priced above $40,000 from 110% to 70%, making it a more attractive market for Tesla.

Musk has previously expressed interest in developing a more affordable Tesla model for the Indian market, but there has been little progress on that front so far.
