A Sports Utility Vehicle fell off a highway in Nepal on Friday morning, leaving eight dead and five others wounded.
The vehicle carrying a total of 13 people fell around 300 metres down a cliff at around 4 am local time in Darchula district.
“The car was carrying pilgrims who were returning after visiting the Mallikarjun temple in the district,” said Chhatra Bahadur Rawat, spokesperson for district police.
He told a Chinese news agency that three of the injured were in serious condition.
The fatal accident is the fourth in eight days in mountainous Nepal.
Earlier in August the bus carrying mostly Indian tourists hailing from Maharashtra plunged into a gorge of the Marsyangdi river in Ambukhereni area of Tanahun district of Nepal on Aug 23.
The bus with passengers mostly from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, was plying from the mountainous tourist resort of Pokhara to the Nepal capital Kathmandu when it fell 150-feet into a river valley.
The major rescue and relief operations were carried out by the local police, district and Nepal Army authorities.
