US President Donald Trump had earlier announced that he would be cutting short his trip to the G7 summit, stating, “I have to be back early for obvious reasons.” He mentioned he would leave after the formal dinner with these wonderful leaders.

Initially, it was assumed that Trump’s early departure was due to the escalating missile conflict between Israel and Iran, which erupted on Friday.

However, Trump later took to his Truth Social account to refute these claims, specifically addressing “Publicity seeking French President Emmanuel Macron”. He wrote that Macron had mistakenly claimed Trump left the summit in Canada to return to Washington to work on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Trump responded, stating that this was false and clarified, “Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that.” He further criticised Macron, saying the French President often gets things wrong, and urged people to ‘stay tuned.’
