The deadly and stubborn virus - COVID 19 seems to have returned after three years as it appears to be resurging in some parts of Asia. Health authorities in Hong Kong and Singapore have recorded a spike in coronavirus cases in both regions, as per Bloomberg report.

The head of the Communicable Disease Branch of the Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection, Albert Au said that the virus activity is “quite high” while addressing the local media this week.

The estimated number of COVID-19 cases rose to 14,200 in the week of Apr 27 to May 3, up from 11,100 cases in the previous week, according to Singapore-based news channel.

According to official data, serious cases, including deaths due to Covid, also rose to 31 in the week that ended on May 3, the highest level in about a year.

As per the news channel, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) said in a media release on Tuesday that over the same period, the average daily COVID-19 hospitalisations rose from 102 to 133, but the average daily intensive care unit cases decreased from three to two cases.

The ministry also said that ‘periodic COVID-19 waves’ are expected throughout the year.

According to reports, two major COVID outbreaks were reported this year by Thailand’s Department of Disease Control, with cases increasing following the Songkran festival last April, which brings people together in crowds.
