Columbia University implements policy changes for $400 mn grant by Trump administration

Columbia University has announced new campus regulations, including restrictions on face masks, following the reinstatement of $400 million in federal funding by the Trump administration. The university will now prohibit the use of face masks on campus unless there is a valid health-related reason.
This decision follows concerns raised by the Trump administration regarding the university’s response to antisemitism on campus. Previously, the administration had revoked Columbia’s federal grants, citing a failure to adequately protect Jewish students. In response, the university has agreed to implement measures aligned with federal guidelines.
Additionally, the administration has introduced visa restrictions targeting foreign officials who facilitate illegal immigration and international students associated with terrorist organisations, including Hamas. The Department of State has already revoked a visa from a student allegedly linked to Hamas-related activities.
These actions reflect a broader effort by the Trump administration to address campus security and antisemitism, reinforcing policies aimed at ensuring student safety and compliance with federal regulations.
