China maintaining large military presence along border with India, reveals Pentagon

A recent Pentagon report reveals that China continues to station a significant number of troops and heavy weapons along its border with India. This has been ongoing since a clash between the two countries in 2020. Although there have been some instances of troop disengagement in certain areas, China has not reduced its overall military presence.
The report states that China has kept approximately 1,20,000 troops stationed along the 3,488-kilometer border, which stretches from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. These troops are supported by a range of heavy weapons, including tanks, artillery, and surface-to-air missiles.
The report also highlights that China’s Western Theater Command, responsible for the border region, has been prioritising the security of this area. This is due to differing perceptions between India and China regarding the border’s location, which has led to several clashes and military buildups in recent years.
While some Chinese military units have returned to their bases, the majority remain deployed along the border, indicating a continued focus on maintaining a strong military presence in the region.
