Canadian PM Mark Carney eyes investment in US ‘Golden Dome’ defense project

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a $175 billion missile defense system, dubbed the ‘Golden Dome,’ appointing US Space Force General Michael Guetlein to lead what he described as a ‘Manhattan Project-scale’ initiative.
Following the announcement, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed interest in investing in the Golden Dome, according to reports.
During a press conference in Canada, PM Carney was asked about potential Canadian involvement in the Golden Dome and the broader US-Canada military alliance. He reportedly stated that it would be a good idea to have enhanced protection for the citizens of Canada, signaling openness to collaboration on the project.
The Golden Dome represents a major evolution from the originally proposed ‘Iron Dome for America.’
Leading contractors competing for key satellite-based components include SpaceX, Palantir, and Anduril, all of whom propose deploying hundreds to thousands of low Earth orbit satellites to enable continuous 3D tracking and missile interception capabilities.
