Bangladesh chief justice resigns after protesters siege Supreme Court

Bangladesh Supreme Court Chief Justice Obedul Hasan resigned today after the protesters besieged the Supreme Court and gave a one-hour ultimatum.
Speaking to reporters in the Supreme Court premises, the Chief Justice declared that in view of the current situation in the country, he has decided to resign keeping in mind the safety of the Supreme Court, High Court, and lower court judges.
The students demanded the resignation of all judges, including Chief Justice Obedul Hasan.
The students were agitated by the chief justice calling full-court meetings without consulting the interim government. The protesters even alleged that the court judges were part of the conspiracy, according to reports.
The full-court meeting was cancelled today as the situation turned tense. However, the protesters continued the siege of the Supreme Court, giving an ultimatum of one hour to the judge.
Notably, an interim government headed by Mohammad Yunus has now taken over after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country.
