Amid Trump’s H 1B shocker China’s K visa is set to be launched on Oct 1

Donald Trump’s sudden move to slap a $1,00,000 fee on H-1B visas isn’t just poor policy, it’s a strategic windfall for China. While the US, in the name of MAGA, drives talent away, Beijing is opening its doors with the new K-visa programme to attract global STEM professionals.

China will introduce a new visa category for young science and technology talents. In August, the country promulgated the decision to amend the regulation on the administration of foreigners’ entries and exits. The decision will come into effect on October 1, 2025.

What is a K visa?

China will add a K visa to its ordinary visa categories, available to eligible young science and technology professionals.

It will be issued to young scientific and technological foreign talents who have graduated from well-known Chinese and foreign universities or research institutions in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and have obtained the corresponding academic degree certificates (bachelor’s degree and above), or foreign young talents engaged in related education and research work in the above-mentioned institutions.

Applicants for this visa must meet the qualifications and requirements set by the relevant Chinese authorities and submit supporting documentation.
