Iceland is the world’s most peaceful country
India improved by 3.5% than last year

The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) released the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2023, covering 163 countries comprising 99.7% of the world’s population. The IEP releases the rankings of peaceful countries in the world every year.
Over the last 15 years, the world has become less peaceful
This year’s GPI report found that the average level of global peace has deteriorated by 0.42%. This is the 13th downfall in peace in the last 15 years. The report stated that 84 countries are improving and 79 are deteriorating in peace in 2022.

Since 2008, Iceland has held the position of the most peaceful country in the world.
Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, and Austria join the list.
Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for the eighth consecutive year, followed by Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The IEP uses 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators to determine the rankings. It measures the state of peace across domains, including societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and militarization.
